Berks faculty members begin stigma reduction partnership

Two faculty members from Penn State Berks will receive funding to begin a project through Penn State’s Consortium on Substance Use and Addiction (CSUA)’s Community Fellows Program to develop and evaluate innovative techniques that will educate police officers about addiction and treatment issues to decrease stigma and increase access to substance use disorder treatment. Jennifer Murphy, associate professor of criminal justice at Penn State Berks, and Brenda L. Russell, professor of applied psychology also of Penn State Berks, are this year’s Community Fellows.

Libraries announces 'Through the Woods' Short Stories fall contest winners

The winning selections from Penn State University Libraries Short Stories’ “Through the Woods” fall 2021 contest have been announced, representing five Penn State campuses. Each of the four Editorial Board winners and the People’s Choice winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card. All winning entries, including nine honorable mentions, will be added to the Libraries’ Short Edition short-story dispensers

Pilot program to address teacher shortage, lack of diversity in Title I schools

When College of Education Dean Kimberly A. Lawless tells people, “We are changing education by educating for change,” she means it. More than words, this mantra has launched a new vision within the college to identify the needs in communities across the commonwealth and then work to meet them. This drive has led to the design of the Teacher-in-Residence Program, a pilot program nearing launch in the Reading School District.

COVID-19 vaccine requirement expands to two more campuses, Penn State Extension

After a careful review of President Joe Biden’s executive order mandating vaccines for federal contractors and guidance issued by the federal Safer Federal Workforce Task Force, Penn State has determined that the COVID-19 vaccine mandate already in place at seven campuses must be extended to two additional campuses — Berks and Schuylkill. The vaccine mandate also applies to all Penn State Extension employees across the commonwealth.
